This year, I have students show their thinking by demonstrating their ThinkMarks using Pic Collage. Students practice thinking while they’re reading by finding these while they read. I introduce these ThinkMarks to my students at the very beginning of the year. ![]() Here’s an example of one from The Curriculum Corner: Many of you have seen ThinkMark posters such as these all over TpT and Pinterest. Then, they recorded them using Pic Collage. Students worked in partners to find as many palindromes as they could. So, I told students that they could go explore palindromes. Students were fascinated by what a palindrome is and how it works. In our reading groups last week, we came across palindromes. I’ve also used Pic Collage when teaching students a new lesson about language. Students sorted the different ways to make that sound: Al, O, and Aw. The pattern this week was the /o/ sound like in talk. Then students can use these grids as a word sort and put each spelling word into the correct grid. Pic Collage offers different grids that you can use as a background. Pic Collage is also a great way for students to practice their spelling words. The options are endless! All I have to do is set the background as a graphic organizer and then the students can add text to write. Students can work on it independently, with a partner, or in a small reading group. ![]() But, I have to talk about it again, because I find that Pic Collage is a great application to work on graphic organizers. ![]() I’ve talked about this on another Blog Post here. *Tip: Pic Collage recently came out with an App called Pic Kids which works the same way as Pic Collage, but has safer searches and more stickers* Here are a few engaging ways to use this app to help promote students’ reading comprehension! Most of my students even tell me that it’s an app that they use outside of school. Pic Collage is a free and extremely user friendly application.
